I was happy to see that a book had been written to honor Harvey Milk. I had the distinct pleasure of meeting his nephew at Gay Pride in Bisbee, Arizona, in 2014.

Great for around ages 6-10. Simple and positive message of working to make the world a better place. Excellent way of introducing topics of social justice and discrimination.

Great illustrations and a wonderfully written children's book! I bought this book for my son's second grade (probably better suited in terms of reading level for third or fourth grade but still worked quite well) book report on a historical figure. He thoroughly enjoyed it and learned a great deal. I highly recommend this book for children!

This book is an excellent resource for all elementary school teachers. The book is well written and beautifully illustrated. As an elementary school teacher I highly recommend this book to teach young children about courage, tolerance, and the tragic consequences of homophobia and hate. What a great resource to celebrate Harvey Milk Day on May 22! A must have for every elementary school and classroom.

Bought this for a friend of mine, and she really liked it. The story line isn't watered down at all, and is much more detailed then one would expect from a children's book. The illustrations are very well done with a water coloured look to them. All in all and very good addition to any fan of civil rights, fans of Harvey Milk, and a great way to introduce children to peoples inequalities.

Where I can see how "people" would like to promote this book as part of their alternate-lifestyle agenda, it hardly speaks generally and rarely includes a broad-spectrum of kids. What I mean is, unless a child is struggling with homosexual tendencies and wants to become a political figure, this book offers little to no insight as to how one can overcome being extremely different than most, but still become successful. It does clearly try to introduce to very young children ideas about sexuality that they shouldn't even be discussing for a few more years, much less in a healthy way. Nice try (i guess) but considering Harvey Milk's checkered past and being considered a teen predator , I think perhaps the gay community should embrace a more wholesome "leader" to push its agenda. With that said, the book was illustrated well and it was written in a way to engage its target market.

Harvey Milk was the LAST person I'd want to introduce a child to, especially a male child.

Wkat a load of horse' carp! Please stop brain washing our childen with this perverse garbage. This homosexuality push has become a religious mission.

After the third chapter you get sick of the guy advertising his product and web sites

I was not prepared to like this book. I’ve never met the author or heard him speak, but I admit to having a bias against the premise that is at the heart of all consulting—that everything can be taught. It’s not a false assumption; it’s just not a complete one. Context is everything, which is why history often has less to teach us than we may think.Too many books of this genre are written by people who have been drinking the Kool-Aid and come to believe they have discovered the true essence of water. Burchard, thankfully, is not that author. You may not agree with everything he writes, but you will ultimately conclude that he is authentic, and that’s about the highest compliment I can pay a person.Every good consultant will start their session with their objective. Brendon is no exception. “This book is about how people become extraordinary, and why others block themselves from that possibility. It will show clearly and unmistakably why some excel, others fail, and far too many never even try.” A few pages later he adds, “It will reveal what it takes to become not just an achiever but a high performer—someone who creates ever-increasing levels of both well-being and external success over the long term.”Then comes the hook. Every consultant knows the old saying, “Them that can, do; those that can’t, teach.” That’s why they always give you the pièce de résistance, the handful of words that describes why their idea is different. It can normally be shown as a geometric shape or simple graph. In this case, it is, “High performance is not achieved by a specific kind of person, but rather a specific set of practices, which I call high performance habits.”At this point, I admit, my expectations were being met. And then things went from bad to worse. “Taken together, the six habits you’ll learn here won’t just get you to excellence, they’ll make you happier—and the data proves it. The positive emotions of engagement, joy, and confidence that define the high performer’s emotional state can be yours.”Happier? I am a sexagenarian who has known modest success and far less modest failure. If there is one thing I’ve learned it is that happiness will not give your life meaning or you contentment. Having the world by the tail is not the path to a purposeful life. But I persevered through the book. I am a curious person and do not give up easily. And the author has achieved more success in high performance coaching than most of us will ever achieve in much of anything. He has a Rolodex (an outdated term, for sure) of the most powerful and influential people on the planet, from Oprah to past presidents and Olympians.I read the book pretty much straight through although I have long practiced one of the tidbits of advice the author offers. I refuse to multi-task and believe it is the scourge of inefficiency and incomprehension. But I do believe in taking breaks, in changing the scene, and augmenting the primary objective (in this case, reading) with the indulgence of a good coffee or a piece of chocolate.I won’t share the six habits of high performance (HP6) that are the heart of the book. And the reason is that we don’t learn if we don’t learn in context. And that task is up to the author, not me, a reader.I will tell you that one thing all six habits have in common is that they are deliberate. They require conscious effort. There are no little green pills. The book, in fact, might have been called The Power of Being Deliberate.Burchard is also not a therapist. “I’ll remind you, I am not a psychologist, psychiatrist, neuroscientist, biologist, or any other title I’m aware of that ends in ‘-ist.’ I am a professional high performance coach and trainer who is paid for results, not discussion or theory.” Fair enough. That’s probably what most people who will consider this book are looking for. Otherwise you’d be in the religion or philosophy sections. There is some jargon but it’s admittedly modest for a book of the genre. There is talk of prolific quality output (PQO, of course), and “performance necessity,” and you will have to get your head around, “They [high performers] remember that the main thing is to keep the main thing the main thing.” It’s a central theme. The HP6, as I was reading the book, did remind me of a variant of cognitive behavioral therapy but that’s not a criticism. It’s a function of the very deliberate nature of the process and practices described. In the end, high performance, as Brendon describes it, is a verb, not an achievement. “Connection [for example] is less about comfort than about challenge.” (I personally think it’s about trust.) And, “…it’s so thoroughly obvious that high performers are generating the feelings they want more often that taking the emotions that land on them.”My biggest pause came with the quote: “The meaning of life is whatever you ascribe to it.” It’s a quote from Joseph Campbell, an American writer known for his work in comparative mythology. He’s probably most often remembered for the counsel, “Follow your bliss.” It’s a quote that is often misinterpreted but is a little too nihilistic for my taste. And when he writes, “There are only two narratives in the human story: struggle and progress,” my first thought was that Camus would disagree. But that’s too much of a digression to get into here. The money line for me was, “Superiority draws us off track a quarter inch at a time.” This is a man who believes in his mission. It is a quality that resonates throughout the book and is, perhaps, the book’s greatest contribution. Too many “successful” people, in my experience, talk humility, but walk superiority. Humility is not an attitude. It is a way of living. It was here that the author earned my 4 rating. The book is probably longer than it needs to be but, in the end, I found it worth the journey. It’s an ambitious work by a man that obviously believes in what he does. And that is undoubtedly why he has known such success.

I really liked the habits and formulas presented in this book and agreed with most. Early in the book the author asks you to take his “High Performance Indicator” test. (Which I was happy to do) problem is I felt immediately pitched from the author for other products/services which took out the genuineness that the author conveyed up until that point. I immediately began receiving emails from the author trying to sell me other products. This made me feel like, ‘geese I purchased the book from this guy, I’m not even 1/4 through and he’s trying to sell me something else’. I had to ask to be removed from the email list. This made me pause and think about the feeling of the hook in my lip and how to remove it, something I needed to get over before continuing in my reading. I have now finished the book and do feel the author was sincere and appreciated the insight. I would have been much more receptive of more information from him if it came at a later time.....

This book has a LOT of fluff. At the 10% mark the concepts are just now being introduced. Most of it has been repetitive, and I have already noticed some of the exact phrases from 7 Habits of Highly Effective People. The author spends several paragraphs talking about how he had to cut valuable information from the book because originally it was 1500 pages. Don't worry though, you can get this great content on his blog or website.I took the free assessment (normally a $97 value!!) and on average got about 3-4 out of 5. Bad news, I need to be at around 4.6 to be effective. The good news is after each category there is a link that tells me how to improve my score! Surely the link will direct me back to this book that has all the answers, right? No, there is an online course, this book isn't mentioned. But more good news! Today you can get the course half off, for only $297!!!Despite all of this I remain slightly optimistic. The book promises to show exact steps to take to improve performance and get more out of life. If it delivers I will gladly delete or amend this review. On the not so optimistic side, a lot of this seems to be rehashed from other material. Seeking clarity is sounding suspiciously like Begin With the End in Mind. Also, I took the assessment about 2 hours ago and have already gotten 3 emails from the author trying to sell the course mentioned above. And again, it bothers me that the assessment results prompt me to the seminar, not to the book that promises to have all the answers.

I have no idea how this book has attained such a high rating; I would perhaps have given it 2 stars if the rating was more accurate, but I now feel the need to warn my fellow readers!I strongly recommend you save your money, or, purchase the classic "7 Habits Of Highly Effective People" by Stephen R. Covey, which makes this paltry excuse for writing and self-help look like garbage. The author's shameless attempts to upsell the reader with other offerings is comparable only to a stereotypical used cars salesman...the sleaze never stops oozing.

I was excited first, but end up realizing the author just wants us to buy his products.

A chunk of the book was spent talking about problems and then a small minority focused on actionable tips. A lot of the book was also spent with the author talking about himself: how many followers he has, how successful he is, which felt ironic given his pages on humility. Habits 1-4 were useful but 5-6 were not very useful.I’d advise the next reader to skim the summary to see if it’s helpful, then map out the specific areas they want to make progress on and skim through. The stories presented weren’t really helpful in getting the points across.

The first hour he has spent taking about what he's going to talk about and how successful he became as a life coach. Too much fluff in my opinion. I am still waiting for him to get to the point. I may not finish the audio book at all.

From the Author

Heyeverybody, my name is Nick Vulich. I just finished writing my newest book - TheOgre in the Basement: Strange Tales From the 1960s and 1970s. It's anoff-kilter look at growing up as a Baby Boomer. If you are from that era, readthe book. You will let out a sigh of relief, and scream AAH! Now, I get it." The Ogre in the Basement was the most fun Iever had writing.  I started writing about five years ago, and letme tell, it's been more therapeutic thanfive years on a psychiatrist's couch. Most of my books offer short, easy toread solutions to life's everyday problems. My bestsellers focus on e-commerce- How to sell on eBay, Amazon, Fiverr, and Etsy. Most recently, I've recently transitionedfrom writing about e-commerce to one of my real passions - History.Hands down, Shot All to Hell is myfavorite of all the books I have written, so far.  As a kid, I spent everyfree moment reading western magazines. RealWest. Westerner. Frontier West. Treasure Times. You name a magazine thatcarried stories about the old west, badmen, lawmen, and gunfighters, and I read it. My life's dream was to write for thosemagazines. I never did. Instead, I wrote one of the go-to books on the topic. How cool is that? Like everything else in my life, I have developed some crazywriting habits.I write best when I am laid back in the recliner watching TV and sipping on aDiet Coke. Just to put it out there - Psych, Family Guy, American Dad,and the Simpson's set the backdrop for my writing. Sometimes Islip in an occasional episode of Monk or Two and aHalf Men.  I am a firm believer in that old saying: Laughter is the best medicine. If you can't laugh at yourself, you are probably a grumpy old man, or well onyour way to becoming one. Shame on you! If you are feeling down, my prescription is to grab a Diet Coke, a doseof your favorite dessert, sit back, andwatch a couple hours of FOX cartoons. Those shows will reboot your funny bone, and get you to see life as it really is - one crazy ride. My favorite books are the historical novels of Kenneth Roberts written back inthe thirties and forties - Arundel, Northwest Passage, Boon Island, and Lydia Bailey. His stories are historically accurate, and totally absorbing no matter how many times youread them.Special thanks go out to my friend Mike, for introducing me to J. R. R. Tolkienand the Lord of the Rings trilogy way back in my college days.I recommend this series to everyone.Right now my focus is history.  I'vegot so many ideas rolling around in my head. 1861: Prelude to CivilWar. We Might Have Been Kings: GeorgeWashington, John Adams, Thomas Jefferson and the American Revolution. And,so many more. The problem isdeciding which book to write first. People often ask me foradvice on how they can get started writing.I tell them to read everything you can get yourhands on. Write as much as you can, and don't limit yourself to one subject orgenre. More importantly, don't be afraid to fail. Not every book is going to bea success. Some of them are going to sit there for six months or a year beforethey take off and start selling. Some are going to emerge stillborn. It's the nature of the beast. That's a little bitabout me, what books and authors haveinfluenced me, and which direction I am headed with my new material. As always, it has beena pleasure.

From the Inside Flap

The one sure thing about eBay is that it is always changing.I have been selling on eBay since 1999, and in that time the company has made dozens of changes that have affected my business - some of them good, some not so good. The best advice I can give sellers is open to change; experiment often with new products, services, and apps; understand that big changes come to eBay twice a year- in the Fall and Spring Seller Updates.Sometimes the seller updates are easy to adjust to. Perhaps a few minor category changes, or perhaps new shipping and handling or return policies. The 2013 Seller Updates pushed many sellers to the limit. Fees changed and became tied to the eBay store levels sellers have. New picture requirements went into effect as sellers made a mad scramble to get their listings updated. The final outtake, as usual, is a better buyer experience. To thrive and grow in 2014 your eBay business needs to be fresh. You need to be nimble and able to react quickly, no matter if you are responding to eBay mandated changes or competitive pressure from other sellers. That is what all of my books are about. They teach you the basics. They share stories about how other sellers got started and grew their businesses. They give ideas for sourcing products and writing strong product listings. No BS, no filler. Just lots of good useful information you can use over and over again, whether you are new to eBay or have been selling here for years.Whichever one of my eBay books you choose to read, please know they have all been updated, and reflect current information and policies for selling in 2017 and beyond.

I was looking for a book which would help me sell a few things on eBay, and this was not the answer. This is oriented towards setting up shop on eBay, not getting rid of a few possessions. It was quite unhelpful in that regard.

I was delighted to find this tiny book so full of helpful advice that can be digested quickly by those of us eager to get started selling on eBay. Mr. Vulich writes as if speaking to the reader in a friendly way, sharing his own mistakes and helping us to avoid potential pitfalls. I particularly appreciated his sharing when costs are worthwhile or unnecessary. In addition, the book I received is the 2013 version so, as much as possible given the constant changes to everything online, I felt that it was pertinent to today's seller. That said, I felt he was a bit too brief sometimes and failed to answer some of my questions: 1) Regarding sales tax: does one collect tax only from buyers who reside in the same state as the seller? If the buyer is having the item shipped to someone in a different location, is there a way to see if the buyer (not the recipient) lives in the seller's state? When/how does the seller remit the collected taxes to the state? Does one need to get a tax number to start selling - "store" or no-store? Perhaps he could include suggestions about how to journal the sales and taxes collected in case one day (heaven forbid!) the seller might be audited? 2) Packing: While it's nice to advise one to "sell light items" so that everything fits into the US Postal Service's envelopes and boxes, unfortunately, most of us have oddly-shaped, large or fragile items to ship. More detail in this area would be helpful. My displeasure came at the end of the book where Mr. Vulich promotes four more books that he has written, two of which apparently enlarge on the content of this book. (To be fair, one is "Coming Soon", and I hope that it has addressed my suggestions.) I'd have been happy to pay more to get everything in one book, with a simple index at the end to direct the reader to the pertinent topics. Perhaps he could make a separate Part 2 section for those who wish, after diving into selling, to create a store. So, bottom line, should you buy the book? I think it's worthwhile for his advice. If you want to start selling 'yesterday', it'll encourage you to get started. Just keep track of your sales and, I think, collect the appropriate sales tax from buyers in your state. If you're NOT in a hurry to start selling, I think I'd wait until his pending book is published, or see if your local library has a recent eBay book filled with a few more details.

Extremely informative! Short and directly to the point without needless verbiage and filler.Am about to initiate my first endeavor as a new seller! Thanx

This book is very easy and nice to read. I rode this book in less than 2 hours and I am not a native english speaker. I agree with everything that is said. You will learn the most important things on how to sell on ebay. But I think the part on where to buy cheap things could be improve, Also a few words on having a website in appliance with the webmarketing good practise would be a good idea.

Takes the fear out of ebay selling! Nick Vulich makes a lot of sense with his tips for ebay selling. He has been selling for years and years, and now sells as his main source of income. Pay attention. He knows what he is doing! As a business person myself, I appreciate the scope of his advice. Read this book, or his others, you won't be sorry.

The writer gives a good story that encourages a person to go for it and start selling on eBay. Also writes a good story about himself.

I have been an ebay buyer now for 6 years. I tried to be a seller for the same number of years, but so far I failed to be a seller because I could not find a good guide to lead me through the ABC of selling on ebay. However, now I know I CAN sell on ebay, thanks to this book. Here are the merits of the book:*** Assumes nothing, and teaches the subject from ABC*** Lists all things that a seller has to set up*** Explains how to set up these things*** Explains various facilities available on ebay*** Tells of the possible conflicts and how to handle them*** Explains what not to doThe Bonus:*** A very large number of pictures help the reader to see things exactly as they are on ebayI was highly benefited as though I received face-to-face instruction. I will be setting up my ebay shop this week itself.Recommendation:*** I highly recommend the book to anyone who is considering setting up a shop on ebay*** I also recommend to the book to those who are already on ebay but who do not yet know all the intricacies of ebay selling

It was good enough, I suppose. I thought I was going to be getting a book and not a pamphlet, though. I actually laughed when I got it because it was, what? 1,000 words at most? Some good pointers but ebay's site does a pretty good job of telling you the same things.Honestly. I wouldn't waste my money on this if I were to do it over. Admire the authors gumption, however!

"The second edition was an exceptional book that could be found in almost any neuropsychology office. The third edition continues this excellence...The third edition is significantly updated and expanded and is worth the price, even for owners of previous editions."--Doody's"As stated in the preface, the goal for this edition was to create a user-friendly reference work that covered all the relevant details of the most frequently used neuropsychological tests, and to provide a general overview of issues 'germane to neuropsychological assessment.' In short: to help you 'know your tools' and to function as a guidebook to the practice of neuropsychology. These goals are surely met- beyond all expections...Having a copy of the third edition of the Compendium at hand would help any of us 'know our tools' substantially better. A Compendium of Neuropsychological Tests, Third Edition is a mature work of outstanding scholarship, and it should find a place on every neuropsychologist's desk."--JINS"A Compendium of Neuropsychological Tests is very well written and superbly organized and would be a valuable addition to the personal library of any clinical neuropsychologist. The book provides an excellent update of current research on a wide sample of neuropsychological tests."--PsycCRITIQUES"The third edition of A Compendium on Neuropsychological Tests is a splendid and magnificent achievement in the field of neuropsychology. We all owe a great deal of debt to Drs. Strauss, Sherman, and Spreen for creating such a masterpiece that is literally a must have for all neuropsychologists."--Applied Neuropsychology

The 2nd edition of the Compendium is an indispensable collection of norms for NP tests, many in the public domain. I bought the 3rd edition assuming that it would provide updated norms drawing on research in the intervening years, but I was sorely disappointed. The 3rd edition contains much less actual data than its predecessor. It is mostly a compendium of reviews of commercially available assessment products, some having nothing to do with NP. If I wanted that, I would have bought the latest Groth Marnat. I wish the editors had taken the time to incorporate norms and research findings since 1998 instead of throwing together this lazy hodgepodge.

Using this book makes quick work of the task of selecting the best available normative data for one's purposes. The 3rd edition of the compendium is a tremendous improvement over the previous edition. First, it's much larger than the previous edition, so a lot more information is covered. More importantly, the authors have integrated an enormous amount of information and presented it in a format that is sufficiently detailed, yet clearly written, well organized, and easy to use. Expensive on a trainee budget, but well worth the price.

This book is an excellent update of the previous edition. Vastly comprehensive and well organized, it is a great technical resource and an easy read. I highly recommend this book as an essential reference for neuropsychology.

I have used this book more in the short time I have had it, than almost any other psychology reference text. An absolute necessity for the neuropsychologist.

Thorough and complete review of current tests in use. A must have for practitioners seeking psychometric information to support the assessment process they choose to employ.

I live in Brazil and I was surprised with the very fast shipping! The books arrived just two weeks after my order!!!By the way, they arrived in a very good shape!!! I recomend shopping here!

Fantastic resource.

Excellent

Did its job.Easy to read and easy to reference.

Great help in writing history papers.

I picked this book up for my college class it was in good condition and what I needed.Very good for someone learning to write in history classes. Even high school if they are in advanced classes.

A excellent little source book for writing formatting and practice. I found it easier to use this book compared with the internet. If you want to learn how to work with Chicago style formatting I recommend this little book.

good

It is very helpful and covers alot of relevant issues in writing about history. I recommend it for any serious writer even though I disagree on some fringe issues.

I love this writers guide. I never cared much for writing in my history courses until i had this with me. The authour of this guide really knows how to associate the outside world and set examples to get you started with ideas in writing a good history paper.

Great resource, but a more recent edition would be preferable.
