If you're a Route 66 lover, then this is another "must have" book. But I was somewhat disappointed that it really only focused on the motels along the road. A lot of the photos are copies of post cards or travel brochures. There were so many other attractions along Route 66 that would have been nice to have included. But what I think was most needed were maps. Joe gives the address of most of the motels, but it really would have been nice to see a map for each chapter showing exactly where along Route 66 the photos were taken. This would have made it more of a book you'd take along with you on your next trip exploring old Route 66 today.
I have the complete series from Illinois to California and some selected towns like where I live, Kingman AZ. Actually living on old Route 66 makes the series come alive and I've explored many places found in the books and photo documented them. They are a good read and the photos are good quality. I highly recommend the entire set if you are at all interested in the Mother Road.
I REMEBER ROUTE 66 BECAUSE OF MY DAD, I HAVE AWESOME MEMORIES. AND PHOTOS OF OUR OWN. MY DADS GONE, AND SO IS A LOT OF OTHER THINGS. BUT ITS GREAT HOW PEOPLE GET TOGETHER WITH THEIR OLDER CARS AND GET THEIR CAR CLUBS GOING AROUND ROUTE 66. I HAD KNOW IDEA THAT THE FREEWAYS THAT WENT BY THEM TO BE IN THIS BIG HURRY AND MISSED THE BEST OF AMERICA.HOW SAD.
Excellent book! If you are interested in Route 66, this is the book you must read.
My wife LOVES these books. she usually reads through the entire thing in the 1st night after getting one. Great coffee table gifts, assuming you're interested in the subject matter.
Part of the next trip
This is an excellent book on Arizona 66. Have been on this section of the 'Mother Road' a couple of times and this book provides a great vintage to modern comparison of the sights and locations along the road.
