Great pictures! Short amount of reading on each page, but you can use the pictures to talk about what is happening. Grandkids first reaction to the cover didn't grab them (not Disney characters or superheros) but liked it once we opened it and read it. In my opinion, best for kids 3-6.

I purchased a "used copy" it came in perfect, new condition.... and signed!!! We love this realistic book about ice fishing with grandpa. Great to teach counting.

The book is beautifully illustrated and both my four year old and seven year old granddaughters like the story. The seven year old reads it to the four year old - over and over.

The illustrations are appropriately plaid! The rhythm of the words and the length of the text are perfect for a cozy afternoon read. You will see the cold, but feel the coziness of the ice fishing shack and the relationship between the grandfather and child.

The minute I saw the cover of this book I was hooked. Evocative of any Minnesota lake in winter, who can resist those cosy ice houses and the plaid fish swimming serenely below the ice? The rest of the book does not disappoint. Spare, lyrical words describe the close relationship of a boy and his grandfather in their quest to catch a fish on a frozen lake. And as a bonus, small children will love the opportunity to count along with the text. In the end, what's most important to the fishing duo is the friendship, not the fish. Two thumbs up to the author and illustrators for this lovely book.

I hesitated about getting this edition because some of the reviewers here mention difficult navigation but am now extremely glad I bought it. Yes, as others have noted, it has a very long, detailed, active Table of Contents which takes a lot of time to page all the way through. It is fine if you are looking for something near the beginning, like Morning Prayer, but cumbersome for anything toward the middle or end. However, there are other easy ways to navigate through the book.First, if you use Kindle's search feature and search for the word "quick" (without the quotes), you will see numerous Quick Navigation indexes and can choose any you want: Page Numbers, Collects, Psalms, Canticles, Prefaces, Litanies, Sentences of Scripture, Confessions of Sins, Other Prayers, or Common Services. Each is an active index. If you go to the Psalms index, for example, you can select the number of any psalm and immediately arrive at it. I have bookmarked several of these indexes and can now get to them in a snap.Another navigation option is searching for page numbers. The numbers in this Kindle edition are coordinated with those in the current standard edition. Thus, if you have access to a paper edition of the BCP but would rather read on the Kindle where you can adjust the font to a comfortable size, you can note the page number of any often-visited page in your paper edition and then search for it with Kindle's search feature. For example, Prayers and Thanksgivings starts on page 810. If you search for "p. 810"(without the quotes and with a space after the period), you arrive there in a jiffy. (I have found it is quicker to enter numbers by simultaneously pressing ALT and the appropriate letter on the top row of the Kindle keyboard than by opening the "Sym" page.) You can also choose the Quick Navigation index for Page Numbers on the Kindle and select any number to go to that page, though this particular index is a bit long because the BCP has more than 900 pages. An additional interesting feature is that page numbers, formatted in light gray, are sprinkled throughout the text, so you can see what page you are on. I have bookmarked the pages I often visit. Navigation to them is now simple.All in all, this edition of The Book of Common Prayer quickly becomes easy and comfortable to navigate. While using the Kindle during a church service might be distracting, this edition is very nice indeed for prayer at home or while traveling. I am definitely glad I have it!

I have two Kindle versions of the BCP, both the one by Episcopal Church and Christian Miracle Foundation Press (EC for short) as well as the one by Church Publishing (CP). I feel like they each have pros and cons, and I'm happy to have both. I'm placing this same review in both locations.I prefer the formatting in the CP; it's a bit cleaner. However, the EC includes the page numbers which, while it can be disruptive while reading, certainly helps me to find a particular page quickly.The Table of Contents in the CP is short and easy to navigate while the one in the EC is very long and takes forever to get through. So the CP TOC will get you to a general area of the book, while the EC TOC will get you to exactly the spot that you want. I don't use the TOC often because I just bookmark all the main spots that I want to get to quickly.One thing that I love about the EC is that in the Daily Office Lectionary, the Psalms readings are hyperlinked to the Psalter, making it very easy to move back and forth between the two sections of the book.Both books occasionally crash the Kindle app, but it does seem like the CP version does it more often.If I had to choose only one (which, realistically, I should have), it would be the EC version. I find that its pros outweigh its cons, and it's less than a third of the price of the CP version.

who can NOT like the Book of Common Prayer. Non-believers can like this book. The only reason I would not give it 5 stars is that it is a Kindle edition and it is hard for me to navigate. It is highly possible, being a 65 year old luddite, that I just don't know what I'm doing. You know what Episcopalians say: I believe the Bible is God's Word because it is quoted in the Book of Common Prayer. Seriously, when I have problems, some of the prayers held "in common" come into my memory. When I am down I remembers that God, ". . . is the same Lord whose property is always to have mercy." That is a cool thing to remember when you are feeling cursed. I like it that the prayers have been carefully crafted, gone over for several hundred years, and repeated by millions. These are prayers we all hold in common, and they are not hillbilly prayers full of "Well God we just happy to be here with ya" prayers. The prayers are short, focused and beautifully crafted. The services are there if you want to study them, to know them. This is a book of prayers for all people to share, they are prayers held in common.

I've always loved The Book of Common Prayer and really enjoy having it on my Kindle. But, this version is a little difficult to navigate and if I ever have to back arrow more than once, I get taken to my Carousel, rather than to the Table of Contents, or wherever I started from.

My 12 year-old great-niece and ten year-old nephews made the blueberry cheesecake tarts and the mini apple cakes for a youth get-together at the church (we of course had to taste them to ensure they were done correctly.) We also made the Perfect Pie Pops for ourselves. When they went home after church that Sunday they were already talking about what we would make the next month. Although I passed my tween years, teens and young adult long ago I made the Frozen Lemonade for myself. No matter what your age Custom Confections is a great recipes to enjoy and share. Also young bakers will love the decorating aspects of these confections. My rating is 4 1/2 out of 5 stars.Decorating tips and the fact that most of these recipes use packaged or homemade cake mixes as a basis make these recipes easy and fun to make.

It is a beautifully written and crafted cookbook that claims it contains 40 recipes that are “easy” enough that kids can make them.The recipes, indeed, are well laid out and easy to follow. And the supporting pictures are stunning examples of food photography.I have no doubt that someone with experience, or a professional, would find it an invaluable tool, especially for entertaining children of all ages.But being a mother of six children, two of them very gifted in the kitchen, I find only a few recipes that I would call simple enough that a child can actually accomplish with little help and have turn out anywhere near its representation in the photographs.With that said, I think the photos are exquisite, the recipes are fun and festive, and the overall book is well put together.I’d use it to prepare for my children’s next birthday parties.

I really love this book. It is beautifully done and the recipe ideas are perfect for parties or other celebrations where one is pressed for time and money. Very colorful illustrations and clear directions. The simplicity of the recipes and the clarity of the instructions for the recipes was quite useful. I will use some of these ideas and recipes when I begin baking again! Thank you Ms. Besel!
