I feel like the current application cycle has gone a lot better for me thanks in great part to this book. It's probably the best $20 I have ever spent. Dr. Hartwig does more than educate the reader about process of being a premed and then eventually a doctor. He makes you think and reflect about yourself-- your past and future--in a way that makes it easy for you figure out exactly what you want to write for the primary and secondary application essays and also what you want to say during the interviews. It's not so much that he coaches you to say the right thing, whatever that may be, but rather gets you to present yourself in the best light possible. In other words, don't treat this book as a "Dummies Guide to Med School."A little background: I was a premed with mediocre GPA and a solid MCAT. Dr. Hartwig's book navigated me in a way that I could get the committees to see my strengths and why they should select me over over great candidates. So far all 4 of my interviews have been home runs!The book is very insightful, well written, and just great to read for anyone who wants to be a physician.

Dr. Hartwig presents a concise yet thorough overview for any aspiring doctor from highschool to 4th year medical student. I had such a hard time getting into medical school, I wish I had known about this book before I started. There is a lot that goes in to the process besides just getting good grades & test scores. Becoming a doctor is a huge process and the hoops are nearly endless. Dr. Hartwig does a great job of mapping them out here and guiding you through the overwhelming process.This book won't help you ace the MCAT or USMLE. It won't teach you pharmacology or anatomy. It will make the journey from undergrad to residency and everything in-between much less daunting and intimidating. This should be required reading for any pre-med and even most medial students.

David Hatcher Childress is a great archeologist, and I for one am very grateful that he has researched, and written this fine book. My wife and I have been to Peru, and many of the sights detailed in this book, and would strongly recommend to anyone that while they still have their health they should fly down, spend a few weeks and see for themselves Lake Titicaca, Machu Picchu, Cuzco, take a private plane over the Nazca lines, etc.. David points out time and again what I came away with after listening to the various tour guides, "The modern archeologists don't know what they're talking about!" The Incas didn't build any of this! Who would (and with what?) cut such enormous blocks of granite to such specific dimensions, drag them down and up tremendous mountains and then fit them in so tightly that a razor blade cannot fit between any two stones? Some of these boulders weigh hundreds of thousands of pounds! Any civilization of the last 5000 years (including modern man) does not have the capabilities to create such structures! In fact any rational civilization would conclude, "We've got to construct with 'smaller stones'!" Still, we must ponder because these stones and the formations created are 'real', "Who did this, and why?"

This is an important work because of the author's actual many travels to the places dealt with in this book. Not many peopleever get to Bolivia and spend much time there. There is a wealth of info and pics about the major and minor archeological sitesthat tie in with others such as Sitchin & Posnansky, that corroborates their findings that these places are much older than"the authorities" speculate. More importantly, the enormous sizes, precision shaping of the building blocks and theirtransport over mtns and across rivers, betrays the fingerprint of the hi-tech super-human builders who were, and still are,above and beyond anything we humans can equal. Great pics well done text!

You "gotta love" Dave Hatcher Childress ... " ... it makes you wanta' wonder ..."He must be a whiz a word processing the way he can re-cycle info from book to book, subject to subject.Don't get me wrong, he can spin a good yarn and if you just get rid of all the recycling and get to the unique info he puts out it would an interesting read but Oh So Much Shorter. But then he couldn't/wouldn't sell as many books. I don't think that is his main purpose but it helps.I like him inspite of all that and have a number of his books.And as he is so fond of saying, "... it's gotta make you wonder if ..."!!

Reading this book makes you wonder why anyone believes the official story of the ancient civilizations of Peru and Bolivia. All you have to do is look at the numerous photographs of the ruins explored to know that these were built by a people who possessed advanced technologies.Definitely a secret hiding in plain sight.

This was the perfect book to read prior to my trip to ancient sites in Peru.

Great stuff to learn about. There is a lot of research that has gone into this book.You must see this all for yourself as it is all so cool.

I wish I had this when I went to Bolivia & Peru. I saw many of the same sites, but missed some of the details provided here. Overall, a very good book. I'm not a fan of the Ancient Aliens theory. The emphasis on this detracts from the real facts provided. This book does make clear that conventional academic explanations for megalithic structures are inadequate. Since visiting South & Central America I've spent much time pondering what I saw. Mr. Childress' book has reinforced & expanded my own thoughts on world history prior to the end of the last Ice Age.

The book still leaves many questions unanswered but is not misinformation. A good read about David and his search for answers/ideas.

Gave my old copy of Photoshop 3 to a friend, but it is not an intuitive program for non-designer, so bought this book for him as well. He's working through it and learning how to use the program, but even with a book there is no substitute for time spent learning the product! I learned the Adobe suite of programs with these books, but daily use in a professional setting certainly upped my game more surely than the book did. The book does a great job of showing you how the program works, but you have to put in the time using it to make it work easily!

Each chapter of this book is supposed to teach the reader the concepts and work flow to complete an After Effects project using assets from the companion CD. I'm on the third chapter and so far I have not been able to reproduce any of the projects by simply following the given instructions because in each of them the authors have failed to include critical information. This seems to be due to sloppiness rather than any planned teaching technique. Perhaps the software has changed due to updates but I've found that the screen shots in the book don't always match what I see on the monitor. The 80% to 90% of each project that does work as expected does provide a valuable learning experience and the other 10% to 20% is possible to figure out, but overall the experience is unnecessarily confusing and frustrating. This is my first experience with the Adobe Classroom in a Book series and it will be my last.

This book is very good for beginners as well as amateurs or anyone new to sound editing. It walks you through how to use the program. It also shows you step by step how to clean up your audio by removing cracks and pops and has some examples of how to use sound effects which, by the way, has numerous sound effects as well. It has what is called a sound effect rack that you can add up to 5 effects at any one time. This program reminds me of my music days when I played in a band and we had all these sound effects pedals and component racks. This software has all that and more built right into to the software. This is a toned down version of Adobe Audition, but it still has everything the demanding videographer will need. This software comes with built in soundtracks that you could edit your video, in real time, to any size of video length. One of the best features allows you to use markers on the waveforms as the video and audio is playing allowing greater effeciency when adding titles.A definite must have for the demanding videographer!!!!

I had to buy this book for school.It's full of lessons you follow along with, using art and graphics provided on a CD. As far as reference or help with your own projects, forget it. Your better off googling your question. If following along is all you need then, it's a nice book. The puppet stuff is OK. That helped a bit in learing it.I had a question about nesting, they said it was pg 19. They just tell you what it is, not how to do it. ( Creativecow.com had a video explaining it)I would not recommend this book.

While I was pretty familiar with NLE editing, the tools and effects of After Effects stumped me. Classroom in a Book lead me in and is opening up lots of doors. Well written and realistic projects. Good pace. I'm getting a lot out of it, at my own pace. And very importantly for a newbie, if it say's a screen looks like this, it does look like that and works just as described. This level of correlation between the text and real world is very important when you're trying to do something complex. Builds confidence.

I am new to Adobe Soundbooth. This book seems to be missing information. For example, the introduction is an overview of features. They start you off by having you access the different sections, but then do not give you complete paths to access all areas within the section to which they directed you and are discussing. I was often left hanging or had to explore my way around the application.The lessons do not explain why you are accessing a specific setting or elaborate on why specific settings were chosen. It would have been helpful to me, to have the discussion provide information on why certain settings were suggested, which setting may optimize section-specific information or apply it differently.I am going to look for a resource now with a little more practical detail. This seems like it was rushed. Learning by exploration is also learning, but this book is a little too anemic.

I bought this book in hopes of learning the ins and outs of Adobe Soundbooth. I use Adobe Photoshop and After Effect. To be honest with you...I gave up. This book assumed too much knowledge for a beginner. I bet it is great for someone that already knows the basics.

I got this to get up to speed on Soundbooth, there was no CS4 book, so I got this in hopes it may help, actually it was 100% right on, there were few if any changes from CS3 to CS4. This book is a quick but effective introduction to Soundbooth. I found all I needed in it and quickly. I would highly suggest this book, Soundbooth comes as part of the Adobe Web Premium package and I had no idea what it was or how it worked, I needed to edit sound for a Flash/actionscript project and this book got me there in like 3hours of reading.
